Secure and two factor authenticated access for physicians and Hospital personnel is required by law. In addition, the Drug Enforcement Administration has proposed regulations that require doctors to use two factor authentication when issuing electronic prescriptions for controlled substances. These forces will require all medical personnel within Hospitals to have a Secure Smart Card Doc ID card to ensure and authenticate identity.

An unknown person is found down. The 62 year old male is found unconscious in the street by a friendly bystander, the friendly bystander immediately performs CPR on the patient and calls for help. Help arrives in the form of the local EMS squad, the patient is intubated and sent via ambulance to the ER. The patient not only has a driver's license to identify him, he also carries a LIFEMED ID and the ambulance laptop has a built-in smart card reader. The EMS personnel now know his medical history of Coronary Artery Disease and Vtach and all of the medications he is on, they resuscitate him and take him to the ER. The doctors in the ER already know his medical problems, his medications his allergies, his primary care doctor, his cardiologist number and with his medical problems as clues are better able to care for him, they are able to identify and talk to his doctors and identify his emergency contacts. The ER physicians are able to treat him faster and able to connect him to his medical doctors easily. He is stabilized and undergoes a full recovery, when he is discharged the hospital updates his discharge medications on his LIFEMED ID and when he follows up with his primary care doctor, he presents his updated ID to the doctor who recognizes the changes in medications, labs done at the hospital and specialists he saw in the hospital. Overall the coordination of care was dramatically improved and achieved with LIFEMED ID.
